Shi-atsu from Japanese 指 圧 shi = finger and atsu = pressure, is an acupressure treatment, which can be done with thumbs and palms on the whole body.
The Shiatsu treatment is performed on a futon (a traditional Japanese mat) or on a bed, in comfortable clothes; no oils or creams are used.
It follows the meridian energy channels, the channels along which vital energy flows, with the aim of removing the blocks that prevent the free flow of energy itself.
The pressures received during a shiatsu treatment results in a tangible relaxation of tensions, in a sensation of lightness, clarity and lightening of the mind, in an improving of ones’ general mood; in greater energy and willingness to be active.
The effects of the Shiatsu treatment go beyond those of a massage because they start from the immediately accessible physical level and also reach the mental and emotional ones.
The treatment reduces the discomfort generated by a hectic and stressful life, improves muscle and joint pain, helps recovery after intense physical activities, makes sleep deeper and more restorative, calms irritability and helps to regain greater emotional tranquility.
Shiatsu promotes awareness of one’s own body, re-establishing contact with one’s emotions and creating harmony between mind, body, and feelings.
